Versie Marie Smith-Sauls was born August 17, 1941 in Giddings, Texas to Lemuel Mack, Sr. and Mary-Lou Mack. She was the eldest of 9 siblings.
She accepted Christ at an early age and began her spiritual journey at Globe Hill Missionary Baptist Church/School in Giddings, Texas.
She graduated from Giddings High School.
She married Apostle Luis Charles Stewart in 1962. Three children were born to this union: Lisa Sewart (Showels) of Giddings, Texas; Timmie Stewart (preceded in death) of Austin, Texas; and Dennis Stewart, Sr., of Austin, Texas.
Ms. Smith-Sauls while employed with Travis State School served in the capacity of Medication Aide; further employment was garnered with Johnson Nursing Home as an Activity Therapist. She was a faithful member of Austin Writer's League, B.L.H. Bradshaw Mission II, and held the title of President for Austin City Wide Mission II.
Ms. Smith-Sauls is preceded in death by her mother and father, Mary-Lou and Lemuel Mack; sister, Helen Gordon; and son, Timmie Stewart. She is widowed by Samuel Smith and Willie Sauls.
Ms. Smith-Sauls is survived by her children, Lisa Stewart (Showels) and Dennis Stewart, Sr.; Five grandchildren: Shalenthia Perkins, Cedric Price, Darlene Price, David Stewart, and Dennis Stewart. Jr.; Eight great-grandchildren: Jeremiah Balancier, Camylle Price, Carder Price, Jordyn Price, Jream Price, Brian Stewart, Shade Stewart, and Judah Wilson. Special friends include - Cynthia Alexander, Mary Clark, Maryum Corothers, Molissa Dickerson, Mildred Wade, and Cathy Young.
