Sharon Hall Obituary

Sharon Denise Hall, 65, of Austin, Texas, passed away on March 15, 2023, after a brief illness.

Sharon was born on October 25, 1957, to 1LT Burnis Lee Hall, Jr. and Lee Cradia (Manning) Hall in Würzburg, Germany.  At the age of 5, doctors diagnosed her with a brain tumor and said that she would not live past age 30.  By the grace of GOD, Sharon exceeded the doctors' life expectancy by 35 years.  After many surgeries, Sharon lived the life of a military brat and traveled with her family to Germany (again), Missouri, California, Texas, Kansas and South Carolina. She played in the handbell choir, took tap-dancing lessons and made her performance debut on a local Houston children’s tv show. She met her lifelong friend, Jesse Sharperson in 1972 at South Carolina State College Felton Laboratory School in Orangeburg.

When the family moved to Texas again in 1976, Sharon joined Olivet Baptist Church.  After graduating from Reagan High School in 1978, she worked in the daycare industry for several years.  During this time, she began acting and was associated with Boyd Vance, the Pro Arts Collective and Zachary Scott Theater.  She doubled for Theresa Merritt in the movie, “The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas”.  Sharon shared her love for acting with her church and helped found the Drama Ministry at Olivet.

Sharon accumulated many, many friends of ALL kinds.  She welcomed people into her home, often sheltering families and individuals who were temporarily displaced.  As long as she was able to drive, she provided free UBER service to all.  Although health issues caused Sharon to go on medical disability, she was very independent and found ways to serve her community.  She collected magazines and books and distributed them to hospitals and became active in her neighborhood watch.

She started an after-school program in her home and offered tutoring and other activities to neighborhood children.  She founded Kids N Da Hood, an organization for youth in the Colony Park community and started a free bicycle program.  She volunteered at Gus Garcia Middle School and was a PTA president and member of their Campus Advisory Council.

Sharon loved going to garage sales, her favorite color was blue, and she had several hobbies.  She alternated between making buttons, jewelry, ceramics, journals and other arts and crafts.  Sharon always had a comeback for everything, and no one could forget her very distinctive “ah-ha” laugh.   Favor for Favor, Too blessed to be stressed, Fake it 'til you make it and Count Your Blessings were some of her favorite sayings.  Her friends will always remember the many, many “Sharon -isms” that made her unique.

Sharon was predeceased by her grandparents and dear friend, Jesse Sharperson who joined her on March 19, 2023.  She is survived by her father, mother, brother Burnis Anton/Tony (Laura) Hall, sister Pamela Hall  (Anthony) Vance, brother Byron (Christie) Hall, and a host of beloved aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and long-time friends.
