Nora Shaw Powell Obituary

Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all of the days of my life, and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever. Psalm 23:6

Nora Lee Hastings Shaw Powell was born in Seguin, Texas to her parents Pierce and Susie Hastings in 1929. They moved to Corpus TX where she attended the historic Solomon M Coles colored student high school. She was raised in a house of love with six brothers and a sister: Pierce Jr., Rosie Lee, Alfred, Donald, Willie D., Richard Charles, and Daniel. Being the eldest of her siblings she was destined to be a caretaker. Everyone that met her admired her lively spirit and witnessed a strong independent hard-working young woman. She accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at a young age and lived by the Word.

Nora met her true love, Oliver Benjamin (O.B.) Shaw and got married in Mexico. Nora, O.B. and their son Clifford moved to Austin in 1953. In their new home they were blessed with five more sons: Oliver Jesse deceased, Elizander deceased, Elvis, Michael and Raymond. Nora was a praying Mother and her sons were her pride and joy. They were raised to love the Lord and understand the importance of family. A devout member of the Church of God and Christ she served on the usher board and was Mother of the Church. She enjoyed cooking, celebrating her children and grandchildren’s accomplishments, taking care of those in need, surprise parties, watching her special shows and talking on the phone. Nora always enjoyed helping others in her extensive career in the health care field and retired from Austin Independent School District. Her husband O.B. preceded her in death September 30, 1982.

God showed Nora love again and she married Albert Powell in Austin Texas. They enjoyed their time together until his death.

Nora leaves to celebrate her life; brother Daniel Hastings and sister Rosie Lee, devoted and loving sons; Clifford Hastings Anchorage AK (Diana), Elvis Shaw Katy Texas (Maria), Michael Shaw Austin Texas (Daphne) and Raymond Shaw Austin Texas (Mary), 28 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
