 A CELEBRATION OF A

LIFE WELL LIVED
   September 17, 1925                 January 19, 2023



John Darden Turner Jr. departed from this life Thursday - January 19, 2023.  He was an inpatient at Ignite Medical Resort in Austin, Texas.

  
A native of Petersburg, Virginia - John was born from the union of the late John Darden Turner Sr. of Petersburg and Ruth Genie Manson of Dinwiddie. John graduated from Peabody High School in Petersburg. While there he met his childhood sweetheart Janet Mable Ross. John married Janet and they had five children:  Ronald D. Turner, Renard F. Turner, John D. Turner III, Janet Marie Logan, and Michelle D. Johnson.  John and Janet were married for 77 years. They currently have 8 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild.

 

John served his country as an active-duty soldier in the Army Air Corps. He was sent overseas to Germany during World War II where he was involved in combat. After the war John returned and enlisted in The United States Air Force where he continued to serve for another 26 years making it his lifelong career. He was Honorably Discharged. Prior to his military career, John attended Rutgers University. 
 

John achieved the rank of Technical Sergeant. He was a Procurement Specialist. He received several commendations for his professionalism from the United States Air Force. John was proud of his military career during which time he and his family were often required to travel and live abroad. John was especially fond of living in Turkey where he spent three tours of duty with his family. He worked in the procurement office of TUSLOG detachment 118 in Ankara, Turkey.  He also worked in procurement in Izmir, Turkey. After retirement from active-duty, John continued to serve the country as a civilian contract administrator.
 
John was an avid reader and loved the art of debate. He was a member of The Toast Masters Club where he fine-tuned his talent for speaking and debating. John was particularly interested in International Affairs and enjoyed traveling to many countries to experience different cultures, He was an international man and an intellect.

  

He was devoted to his wife Janet, and children.  He leaves behind a host of relatives who will cherish his memory.


John Darden Turner, Jr., will be laid to rest with Military Honors

Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery - San Antonio, Texas
