Jimmie Mae Carter

Jimmie Mae Henderson Carter was born on May 4, 1928, in Harwood, Texas to the late Mary Ann and John Henderson. She received her education from the Harwood Public School System.  Jimmie Mae accepted Jesus Christ at an early age and remained strong in her Christian faith for the remainder of her precious life. She was a member of St. Paul Baptist Church in Harwood Texas until she moved to Austin and joined the New Lincoln Missionary Baptist Church where she remained a faithful member for almost 80 years until our Savior called her home.

Austin, Texas proved to be filled with promise because this is where she met and married her soul mate, Harold G. Carter, Sr.  Throughout their love story, which lasted 55 years, they forged a partnership sustained by Jesus Christ, love, friendship, and spiritual communion. God blessed their union with four beautiful souls. Being a wife and mother was her God-given gift. She epitomized the values of Christianity, and the importance of family, hard work, laughter and togetherness.

Jimmie Mae’s favorite pastimes included cooking, especially Sunday lunch for her family, sewing, playing dominoes, bingo, and solving various puzzles.  She was a devoted wife, nurturing mother, dependable sister, grandmother, and a loving great-grandmother.  She loved God and faithfully served Him as a church nurse and as a member of Mission I at New Lincoln. Additionally, in the secular world, she worked for Travis State School until retirement. Later, not quite ready for a life of leisure, she took a position with the Grandparent Program at Open Door. 

Jimmie Mae is survived by: her children: Sharon Kay Easley (Gilbert), Wanda Fay Carter and Harold G. Carter, Jr. (Alicia). She is also survived by eight grand-children: Dewarn Easley, Dionne Easley-Landry, Gilbert Easley III (Aleyda), Charse’ Kiara-Thomas (Marvin), Erica Santiago, Harold Carter III, Maya Carter, and Jamal Carter; ten great-grandchildren; Bria Jones, Brooklyn Jones, Taytum Kiara, Eli Easley, Seth Easley, Nicholas Santiago, Lauren Landry, Mason Kiara-Thomas, Atticus Carter, Alexander Carter and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She is preceded in death by: her parents; husband; her son, John Allen Henderson; her siblings and in-laws.

Family and friends will remember her compassionate spirit, her stylish demeanor, infectious laughter, and her devotion to family.
