JT Patterson, Sr. Obituary

The Dash….

The battle is over, I have fought a good fight, and the victory is finally won.

No more suffering and pain, I have much more to gain.

I heard the heavenly angelic choir singing as it drew near the hour.

When the pearly gates open,

I could see…

Brother JT Patterson, Sr., was a long life-time resident of Travis County; on September 20, 2022, his family, his church, and his community began to mourn the passing of a strong man who maintained maturity with dignity, while facing life’s trials and triumphs. JT Patterson was born to Minnie Moore on March 31, 1940, in Del Valle, TX. He attended the public schools of Travis County.

“A Time to Plant”

Growing up in family of three boys, JT learned how to work and be steadfast at his task. He was a man travelling the road, in and out of season. JT’s journey took a great change when God chose him on the first Sunday in January 1989. JT always knew the Lord and His good works, and on that day, he repented and gave his life totally and completely to God; under the pastoral leadership of Pastor James Addison, Sr., this big step transpired. He worked faithfully and had a special song that he sang just for Jesus. He renewed his relationship with Christ and worked faithfully at Faith and Trust Community Bible Church under the leadership of the pastor, Reverend Patrick Neal Addison. Working in the church, JT took a stand, working in and out of season, exemplifying what it meant to be a God-fearing man.

JT was always known to work hard providing for his family of seven girls and one boy, who he loved dearly within the walls of his heart.

JT and Gene Anthony Brown united in Holy Matrimony on August 10, 2001; a lady that spent many days explaining why her father named her ‘Gene Anthony.’  She and her husband would laugh often, with JT having the last laugh. They combined their families and formed numerous precious memories; his seven girls and her three sons – learning respect and boundaries.

“A Time to Play and Work”

JT worked at Viking Fence Company for several years before going to the Austin Independent School District, where he retired. Blessings of ‘a green thumb’ came from JT’s love for plants and their care.  He always had a good history lesson to share, and a Bible story to close the conversation on a good note.

“A Time to Die”

Brother JT Patterson, Sr. led an active and fulfilling life; this legacy he established, is endless. This occasion has caused many hearts to bleed and many eyes to water because of having to bid “adieu” to a Husband, a Father, a Papa, an uncle, a cousin, a Friend – A CHILD OF GOD – will be deeply and deeply missed! JT is preceded in death by: Mother, Minnie Moore; Brothers:  SL Demps (Buster), and Johnny Brown; and his only son:   JT Patterson, Jr.

“A Time to Celebrate”

After seeing many generations, Brother Patterson lived a thankful and enriched life, and his legacy will be long remembered by his wife of twenty-one years, Gene Anthony Patterson; his seven girls: Cheryl and her husband (RL Murray), Carlos Patterson, Evonne Patterson, Patricia Patterson, Kristi Patterson, Evette Patterson, and Erica Patterson; three bonus sons: Jermain Montay Brown; Michael Anthony Williams; and, Robert Warren Alexander, Jr.; a host of grandchildren and great-grands covering a grand number of nieces and nephews, cousins and a multitude of other relatives and friends, including the Faith and Trust Community Bible Church family.
