Douglas Fred Gooden, born on August 25, 1954, to Douglas Davis (Bertha) and Doris Hughes (Wesley) in Austin, Texas, passed away peacefully on July 10, 2024. A dedicated patriot, Douglas proudly served in the United States Army, demonstrating his unwavering commitment to his country. Following his military service, he contributed his talents as an employee of the State of Texas, earning the respect and admiration of his colleagues.

Douglas shared a deep and enduring love with his beloved wife, Rita Gooden, with whom he shared many cherished memories until her passing. A devout fan of the Dallas Cowboys, Douglas's passion for his team was matched only by his love for his family.

He is preceded in death by his biological father, Douglas Davis, his loving father, Wesley Hughes, his wife, Rita Gooden, his grandparents, Thomas Gooden Sr. and Everine Gooden who were pillars in his upbringing, and his grandson, Donnie Gooden Jr. He is survived by his loving mother, Doris Hughes; his brother, Robert Hughes Sr.; his devoted sisters, Lavette Williams (Tyree), Briggitte Gooden, and Gillian Rose (Henry). Douglas leaves behind his beloved children, Donnie Gooden Sr., Jacqueline Spears, and children Ty’Ra Johnson (Garcia), Robert McGinnies, and Corwyn McGinnies. His legacy continues through his cherished grandchildren, Tyrita Chever (Maurice), TyGara Johnson-Miller, Donnie Gooden III, Darren Gooden, Kyra Gooden, and Briauna Avery as well as a host of grandchildren through marriage, great-grandchildren, aunts, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Douglas will be remembered for his unwavering dedication to his family, his country, and his community. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
