Derrick Eulon Brown

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Derrick Brown, a devoted son, brother, uncle, and renowned photographer, who passed away peacefully on November 06,2024. Derrick was born in Elizabethtown, North Carolina, and raised in Austin, Texas, where he spent much of his life capturing the world through his lens.

Derrick grew up in the Church, attending Loyalty Missionary Baptist Church, where he was nurtured in his faith under the guidance of his grandfather, the late great Pastor Eulon Brown, Sr. His strong foundation in faith and family shaped the man he became, and those who knew him were always struck by his deep sense of compassion, generosity, and love for others.

Derrick’s passion for photography was sparked during his time in the United States Navy, while stationed in Honolulu, Hawaii. It was there that he discovered his love for the art, a passion that would shape the rest of his life. After serving his country, Derrick made the decision to retire early from his position with the City of Austin Electric Department to pursue photography full-time.

Derrick's talent and drive led him to Dallas, Texas, where he quickly gained recognition as a celebrity photographer. He had the privilege of working with high-profile individuals, capturing stunning images of celebrities such as LisaRaye McCoy, Bun B, Webby, and Eric Roberson, among many others. His work was a true reflection of his artistic vision, and his ability to connect with people made him a sought-after photographer.

A graduate of LBJ High School in Austin, Derrick returned to his roots in photography, founding his own business, DBrown Photo Shoots, and continuing his craft for over 30 years. Whether capturing portraits, weddings, corporate events, or high-fashion photography, Derrick's work was admired for its creativity and professionalism.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Emmie Brown, and father, Eulon Brown, Jr. Derrick is survived by his siblings: La Tonia Brown Huff, Marcus Brown, Eulon Brown III, and Joshua Gordon Brown, as well as a hosts of nieces and nephews, including: Justin Monroe, Hendrix Monroe, and Jayden Monroe. He is also survived by his Paternal Aunts and Uncles from Texas: Helen Griffen, Carolyn Berry, Sharon Govan, and Woodrow Gardner; his Maternal Aunts and Uncles: Roger & Barbara Dunham of Upper Marlboro, MD, Marvin & Shirley Dunham of Suitland, MD, and Milton & Dorothy Dunham of Philadelphia, PA; and a host of cousins who loved him dearly.

Derrick's legacy will live on through the countless photographs he took and the many lives he touched. He was known for his kind heart, infectious smile, and his unwavering commitment to both his family and his craft. Derrick will be deeply missed, but his memory will endure in the images he created and the love he shared.

A Memorial Service will be held at Phillips Upshaw & Richard Funeral Home on December 14, 2024 at 11:00 a.m.
