Catharine Mims Obituary

Catharine Deloris Weston-Mims was born February 8, 1947, in Panama City, Florida to the proud parents of Emma Gibson and Clinton Weston.  She had 2 siblings:  Lonnie J. Perry and Bessie M. Mitchell.  She graduated from Rosenwald High School in 1965.  Sister Cathy decided she wanted better for her life, so she packed up and moved to Austin, Texas in April of 1979.  She found employment at Southwestern Bell (currently, AT & T), where she retired after 30 years of service.

She became a member of the former Smith Chapel Church of God in Christ (presently, Mims Chapel Church of God in Christ) in 1981.  She faithfully served under Pastor Carlton Mims as the church secretary, a member of the finance team, a choir member, and President of the Usher Board.  Sister Cathy was a significant asset on the business side in the purchasing process for the new Mims Chapel building.

Sister Cathy was working faithfully in the church, serving the lord when she needed the assistance of Deacon Johnnie Mims to work on her car.  He came to the rescue and little did we know, this would be the beginning of a beautiful love story.  After the passing of Pastor Carlton Mims, she remained faithful to the Mims Chapel Church, under the leadership of Pastor Michael Mims.  While working in her  local church District Missionary Juanita Glover promote her to the Business and Professional Women's Auxiliary where she worked passionately for 13 years.  Every she spearheaded a one-day Women's Conference, and each year many women were blessed for her efforts.  Despite her challenges, she remained dedicated to the work of the Lord.  Her last conference in August 2021 was her best and final one.

Deacon Johnnie Mims and Sister Catharine Weston were united in Holy Matrimony - April 10, 1994.  A blended family formed from this union.  Sister Cathy was the proud mother of and leaves behind one son - Darryl F. Cotton (Daneise); two daughters - Joanne Cotton-Mims (David), and Michelle Penn (Marcus Penn) who preceded her ndeath; grandchildren - Desiree, Danielle, Marcus II, Destinee, Diamond, Michael, Damari, Joshua, Darryl D., Darius, Darian, Devin, Jordan, and Jaimee.  Her daughters and sons of love:  Theresa, Johnnie, Gloria, Brenda, Larry, and Lester (Marilyn and Kenneth preceeded her in death).  To cherish her memory she also leaves behind her extended family of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, her church family, and friends.
